Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association of Schaumburg

In 1996, the Village of Schaumburg along with the Schaumburg Police Department, started a program called the Citizens Police Academy, a ten-week class to offer Schaumburg residents and business owners a comprehensive and behind-the-scenes understanding of the police department’s operations.

The program proved very popular in the community, and just three years later in 1999, graduates of the Citizens Police Academy class formed the volunteer member group that is known today as the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association of Schaumburg, also known as CPAAAS. The goal of the organization is to support the police department through volunteer service and fundraising.

Today, CPAAAS has over 100 active members who share a commitment to supporting our police department and making Schaumburg a safer and more vibrant community. Volunteer members enjoy monthly meetings featuring highly informative guest speakers from law enforcement as well as other high-profile community leaders. CPAAAS is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization in the state of Illinois.

What Does CPAAAS Do?

As an all-volunteer organization, the purpose of CPAAAS is to assist the Schaumburg Police Department in its overall mission by volunteering at police-sponsored events, raising funds to purchase important resources for the department that may not be included in its regular budget, and supporting local law enforcement in every way possible. CPAAAS also promotes the civic development of its members through educational training and presentations on law enforcement and relevant community topics and service opportunities. CPAAAS members volunteer at over 50 police and community-related events each year.

Fundraising

Since its inception, the CPAAAS organization has developed fundraising programs that are designed to benefit the Schaumburg Police Department. The Angel Fund, started in 1999, has provided critical support to the department by purchasing essential training tools, equipment, officer training and support, K9 dogs, and a variety of specialized purchases and community outreach programs. To-date, CPAAAS has raised over $50,000 to support the Schaumburg Police Department.

Just a few of the purchases CPAAAS fundraising has enabled:

  • K9 police dogs

  • Ballistic shields

  • Commander vehicle lockers

  • Training weapons and accessories

  • Mental health resources
